A Generous Outpouring: Day 3

“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. Even on the male and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit." (Joel 2:28-29, ESV)

Up until that time, when God poured out His Spirit it was to a few: prophets, priests, and kings. There are multiple examples of receiving the Spirit and prophesying (prophets: Nehemiah 9:30; Zechariah: Luke 1:57; King Saul: 1Samuel 10:10). The nation of Israel looked up to those who were anointed by God's Spirit.

However, these verses speak of a time when God will generously pour out his Spirit "on all flesh." Men and women, sons and daughters, even servants will receive this outpouring. No longer will it be the few whom God has given His Spirit, but many.

This ought to spark joy in us! Something great, wonderful and HUGE was fulfilled on Pentecost and YOU are included in that! If you have never felt or experienced something that you would describe as an "outpouring" of the Holy Spirit on you, then ask Him! Take this day to ask for an outpouring of the Spirit in you.
